Verbal Assault Self-defense Training

Physical assaults often begin with verbal assaults.

Holistic self-defense begins way before a physical attack. It includes avoidance and de-escalation to defuse threats, including verbal aggression.

Many people deal with verbal aggression on a fairly regular basis. They are much more likely to need de-escalation skills than physical self-defense skills. Verbal attacks may range from minor arguments with kids, partners, or colleagues to major verbal assaults such as road range.

Verbal assault de-escalation skills thus are not only crucial for traditional self-defense situations, they’ll also serve you in your everyday life.

At Three Rivers Defense, we teach not only physical, but also mental and emotional self-defense.

When you are verbally attacked, especially if you have never been verbally assaulted before, you may get annoyed, distracted, enraged, or even terrified by a verbal ambush. You may freeze. You may get so emotionally charged that you cannot think logically or strategically. Your reactions may be delayed as your brain tries to deal with the verbal barrage.

So what can you do to prepare?

You can begin by identifying what triggers you? What buttons, when pushed, hurl you into a mental tailspin? What types of comments about you or a loved one annoy you easily? What enrages you? What terrifies you?

This can be uncomfortable to think about. But it’s super important preparation for effective self-defense should you ever be attacked. Plus, you can use these skills for micro aggressions and annoying verbal attacks in your every-day life.

We use a set of specific verbal assault drills, developed by Coach Tony Blauer, that help you train your mind and body to react more efficiently and more effectively.

You’ll learn and practice to become conscious of your biofeedback when you are verbally attacked.

You’ll learn and practice to get into a Non Violent Posture (NVP) and adjust your NVP as necessary.

You’ll learn and practice how to de-fuse or tune out the triggering language of the attack.

You’ll learn and practice how to use your NVP as a Trojan Horse to de-escalate while at the same time preparing to fight back as is morally, ethically, and legally justified.

You’ll improve your mind speed for severe attacks as well as in your everyday life.
